client contact you have is an opportunity to advance
the selling
process, impress the client favorably and
establish expectations. And
ideally, the expectations
you establish are those that only you can meet!
For
example, if you are the only distributor in your area
with some in-house production capability, position that
with your clients as something to be expected...
that way, all your competitors immediately fall short.
If you are
the only distributor in your area with a
showroom, position that as something to be expected and use it to reposition your competitors as small mom
and pops operating out of their homes. If you're a solo
distributor or mom and
pop operating out of your home,
use that to position yourself as much more responsive, cost-effective (because of lower overhead) and
more flexible than those stuck inside a showroom!
The
point is that regardless of your situation, you can and must find things that you do significantly
better than your competition and promote those things
like crazy.
