"Three Personality Types That
Make Selling a Nightmare"
Dear Top Secrets Subscriber,
If
you've been reading this newsletter for any length
of
time, you know that I'm a big fan of building your promotional
products business proactively. That means deciding
who you will and who you will not do business with.
As
you approach each new selling opportunity, beware
of
tell-tale signs that indicate your prospect has a personality
type that makes selling a nightmare:
1. Know-it-alls. People
who are not particularly open to the ideas of others,
but feel compelled to share their own thoughts repeatedly.
Generally, they'll waste a lot of
your time telling
you what they know. They don't listen particularly well
and as a result, it's very difficult getting them to
commit.

2. Victims or Takers.
These are people who feel the world owes them a living.
They'll pick your brain for hours on end looking for
just the right idea or promotion as they nickel and
dime you every step of the way. If and when they buy,
they will likely implement your recommendations haphazardly
or ineffectively, then blame you when it doesn't work.
3. Tire Kickers. These
are people who will try a few things here or
there, but
will never really commit to taking the consistent,
positive action that would make their efforts successful.
You can sell to tire kickers, but they'll rarely go
on to become exceptional clients unless they change
their approach.
One
of the biggest benefits of identifying these personality
types early is that you may then choose whether
or not you wish to pursue them. If you don't, you're
on to more qualified prospects. If you do, at least
you know what you might be getting yourself into. |
Meantime,
if you are truly committed to doing what it takes to
grow your client base proactively (and if you
do not possess one of the three personality types above!),
I encourage you to join us...
