I
know that may sound a little far-fetched at first, so
allow me explain...
In
a successful business, you HAVE to have the ability
to attract, qualify and convert clients... and you
HAVE to be able to do that whenever you need to. Essentially
at will.
In
fact, if you lack the ability to attract, qualify
and convert
clients at will,
your business will never be all
that it is capable of being...
But let's be clear: When I say attract, qualify and convert
clients at will, I’m not saying that you can attract
every business at will. The fact of the matter is
that there will be quite a few businesses that you won’t
want to attract and there will others that you won't
be able to attract. But this procedure is not about
them. This procedure is about getting the prospects
who WILL convert for you. It
means that when you absolutely have to make it happen,
you have the power to do so.
I
had a guy approach me at a trade show. He had been “thinking
about” purchasing one of my training systems for YEARS,
but never managed to get off the fence. Whenever I’d see
him at a show, he’d tell me a really sad story about why
his business was still unable to afford a couple hundred
dollars for a training system that would very likely have
allowed him to cut back on the number of sad stories he
had to tell...
The
problem was that he was hemorrhaging
thousands of dollars every month
on rent and overhead and utilities
to support an under-performing business
...while
missing out on opportunities to make money left and right,
because he never took the time to learn how to properly
and consistently attract clients.
This particular time, he told me that he couldn’t invest
right now, because his market just wasn’t buying. So I
asked him, "what’s your market?" And he gave
me the name of a large, heavily-populated southern city.
I said, “you’re telling me that no one in that entire
city or outlying markets is buying promotional products
right now?” “Yeah,” he said, “no one’s buying."”
Well then I'm afraid I can’t help you," I told him,
and I sent him on his way.
Now
if I thought for a minute that there was any truth
to his statement that no one in that entire city and
outlying market was buying, I might have helped him
to put together a strategy to target some new markets,
examine some industries that are buying,
set up a referral network or do something
that would help him to generate sales and profits now.
There is always something we can do!
But I knew from years of talking to this guy that none
of that was going to happen for him. Because his engrained
pattern was simply to complain about his situation
and procrastinate, rather than taking the necessary
actions to change it. I can't help someone like that.
I don’t think anyone can.

As
far as his market was concerned, I personally knew at least
two Top Secrets clients in the same town... one of whom
was doing about half a million dollars a year and the
other doing about 10 million a year. So it’s not like
people weren’t buying in his market. They just weren’t
buying from him, because he had no system in place
to attract, qualify and convert new clients at will!
The
truth of the matter is that someone is always buying.
And our obligation as industry professionals is not to
complain about all the people who AREN’T buying. Our obligation
is to find those who are. Our job is to
find the buyers. But how do you do that?

THAT
